NCTR INVITES THE COMMUNITY TO SUBMIT VIDEOS ON RECONCILIATION
WINNIPEG, MB – The National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation invites the community to submit videos highlighting their commitment to reconciliation and its role in their lives. Submitted videos will be used as content in the creation of an educational program centered around the theme: ‘Remembering the Children’ for Truth and Reconciliation Week 2022.
“Calling the community to action is an important part of reconciliation,” said Stephanie Scott, Executive Director of the NCTR. “These videos are an opportunity to share the truth about Indigenous history, culture, language, and the ongoing legacy of residential schools.”
The educational program will be hosted by Indigenous people, interwoven with clips of students, knowledge keepers, and residential school Survivors. In each episode, the hosts will guide students through a shared experience of Indigenous-based topics and themes, interview significant people, or visit important places across Turtle island.
Some ideas for submissions include videos showcasing:
- Common phrases in Indigenous languages
- Indigenous stories and books for children
- Indigenous heritage, identity, residential school history, or the significance of wearing an orange shirt
- The diversity of Indigenous art, music, and dance
- Your responsibilities for reconciliation

About the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation:
The National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation (NCTR), hosted by the University of Manitoba, was created to preserve the memory of the country’s Residential School system and legacy, not just for a few years but forever. It is the responsibility of the NCTR to steward and share the truths of Survivors’ experiences in a respectful way and to work with Indigenous and non-Indigenous educators, researchers, communities, decision-makers, and the general public to support the ongoing work of truth, reconciliation and healing across Turtle Island and beyond.
Truth and Reconciliation Week is an annual national program open to all schools nationwide. The program gives students in Grades 1-12 the opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge of Indigenous history, culture, language and the ongoing legacy of residential schools, from Indigenous knowledge keepers and Survivors.
