Art and Essay Stream
Who can participate?
- K-G12 and CÉGEP — can submit an art piece, essay, or other representation to express their vision of a reconciled Canada, which may be featured in an art book.
Accepted File Types:
Projects can be submitted by hard copy or electronically via email, but please note originals will not be returned.
- Written submissions: Word or pdf files
- Visual Pieces: high resolution photos in .jpg format
- Music/Song/Sound: .mp3 files
- Video: mp4 files are preferred, other file types may be accepted
- Other: any other formats can be mailed to the NCTR office
Submission Process:
Please read the following instructions carefully before submitting your project.
- Submissions must be made by 11:59 p.m. CT, February 16th, 2024. We will accept submissions by email and snail mail, the post mark should be February 16th.
- Please contact us in advance of our deadline for any assistance or direction about the submission process.
- Submissions must include a completed submission form with all fields filled in, and include the appropriate signatures. Projects submitted with incomplete forms will be ineligible for consideration.
- Contents of the submission are considered public information once submitted and should not include private or privileged information.
- Artwork must be submitted in the appropriate file type. An original copy of the artwork is preferred, but please note originals will not be returned.

- Identify up to 2 additional project representatives
- Review submission form to ensure it has:
- All fields filled out
- Correct contact information
- Completed essay questions
- Completed artwork

NCTR’s spirit name – bezhig miigwan, meaning “one feather”.
Bezhig miigwan calls upon us to see each Survivor coming to the NCTR as a single eagle feather and to show those Survivors the same respect and attention an eagle feather deserves. It also teaches we are all in this together — we are all one, connected, and it is vital to work together to achieve reconciliation.
