To celebrate the success of last year’s online event, Every Child Matters, we are proud to present a full week of Truth and Reconciliation programming.
TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION WEEK is a 5-day national event that will continue the conversations from Every Child Matters. Important conversations including the truths of the Indigenous treaties, First Nation, Métis and Inuit land claims, and the residential schools system. This online event will provide historical workshops, exclusive video content, and activities for students — all supported by artistic and cultural performances by First Nations, Métis, and Inuit artists.

NEW For the very first Truth and Reconciliation Week, the NCTR wants to see First Nations, Métis and Inuit people sharing their languages, culture, and connection to the land. Please sign this release form and upload a short video clip featuring your family to be included as part of the September 30th broadcast or shared on the NCTR website.
Here’s what we suggest saying in English, French or your traditional language:
“We are (Family Name) from ____________speaking _______ on (this land) ____________.” You can then wait 10 seconds and share how to say “Welcome” in your language.

PROGRAMMING
The 5-day program will be held online from September 27 to October 1, 2021. Each day, teachers will share videos with their Grade 5-12 students. Created by Indigenous storytellers, these videos will show traditional ceremonies and artistic performances, alongside conversations with Elders and knowledge keepers, Survivors, and children of Survivors of residential schools. There will also be a moving tribute to the Missing Children that never returned home from the residential schools.
On September 30, Orange Shirt Day, a special program will be held to commemorate the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. We hope you and your students will join us.

NCTR’s spirit name – bezhig miigwan, meaning “one feather”.
Bezhig miigwan calls upon us to see each Survivor coming to the NCTR as a single eagle feather and to show those Survivors the same respect and attention an eagle feather deserves. It also teaches we are all in this together — we are all one, connected, and it is vital to work together to achieve reconciliation.
