Oblate Priests
This research resource provides a list of profiles of the Oblate O.M.I. Lacombe priests who were administrators and/or teachers in the residential school system. Each priest’s profile includes their origin information and the school(s) where they served as a teacher and/or administrator. Each profile also links to the online set of records for the school(s) where they worked.
In 2021, the NCTR signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with representatives of the Oblates O.M.I. Lacombe. This MOA appoints the NCTR as the principal archival resource for investigating the Oblate role in the residential school experience.
This project identifies over 600 priests associated with the residential school system. This research resource sets the context for the school experience, it is a source of important information for researchers studying the Oblate Order. It is a vital resource for families and communities who continue to conduct their research of residential school Survivors and the children who didn’t return home. The NCTR will continue to develop this resource with more names of priests and more records.

NCTR’s spirit name – bezhig miigwan, meaning “one feather”.
Bezhig miigwan calls upon us to see each Survivor coming to the NCTR as a single eagle feather and to show those Survivors the same respect and attention an eagle feather deserves. It also teaches we are all in this together — we are all one, connected, and it is vital to work together to achieve reconciliation.
