Preserve Your Records
We invite Survivors, their families, and others whose lives have been impacted by residential schools to continue to share their truths and experiences in any form.
By sharing your experiences, you create a place of learning, dialogue, and understanding, where the collective and individual truths of Survivors and others impacted by residential schools are honoured and protected to advance reconciliation.
Protect the Knowledge
When you share your history with the NCTR, your truths benefit education and research in the reconciliation movement in Canada: We can help you learn how to preserve your own records too.
IAP/ADR Records
Get information on all your choices if you have filed Independent Assessment Process (IAP) or Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) claims.
Share Your Stories
The NCTR accepts records and statements from those interested in sharing their experiences in any format they wish. We also collect, house and keep safe records and sacred materials on various issues and subject areas important to Indigenous communities across the country.
Survivor Support
Accessing and viewing records within the NCTR Archives may be a traumatic experience for Survivors and their families. If at any time you feel the need to speak with someone, a national crisis line is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

NCTR’s spirit name – bezhig miigwan, meaning “one feather”.
Bezhig miigwan calls upon us to see each Survivor coming to the NCTR as a single eagle feather and to show those Survivors the same respect and attention an eagle feather deserves. It also teaches we are all in this together — we are all one, connected, and it is vital to work together to achieve reconciliation.
